Lorisia MacLeod, learning services librarian at the Alberta Library in Edmonton, Alta., Canada, developed citation templates for indigenous oral teachings.

“These templates are currently in use by roughly 25 colleges and universities across Canada and the United States.”

Currently there is no equivalent to citing oral teachings with the Bluebook citation style. This would be a great inclusion in a future edition.

Simon Fraser U. has a great LibGuide that addresses how they use APA to cite indigenous elders and knowledge keepers.

Some academic libraries have created their own citation styles (see NorQuest Library).
