Course Name: Law & Society in Japan, LAW 514 V [1-3]
Course Description: This course begins with an extended historical review of the foundations of Japanese law in society, looking at Japan's adoption and adaptation of Chinese legal doctrines, continental European legal structures and ideas, and most recently, American influences. Next, we will consider the structure of contemporary law in Japan, by looking at the various players in the legal system, some important legal doctrines, and the real-world operation of Japan's laws today.
