If you have chosen to represent yourself in court, it is called proceeding “pro se.” (pronounced Pro-SAY).

Free Informational Seminars

Lunch and Learn the Law
Schedule of informational seminars about the Hawaiian courts. Includes a video archive of past seminars.

Divorce Law in Hawaii
Attend free informational seminars sponsored by the Family Court of the First Circuit Court for Hawaii. Presentations include an overview of custody and visitation, child support, property division and alimony. Includes a video of a past seminar.

If you cannot afford an attorney

If you have been charged with a criminal offense and cannot afford an attorney, you have the right to an attorney free of charge. For more information, contact the Office of the Public Defender at (808) 586-2200.

If your case is a non-criminal matter, it is called a civil case. You may qualify for legal assistance in a civil case. For more information, contact the Legal Aid Society of Hawaii at (808) 536-4302 for Oahu, or 1-800-499-4302 for neighbor islands.

Legal Line (808) 537-1868 Volunteer attorneys are available to answer legal questions and offer referrals on Wednesday evenings from 6:00 pm – 7:00 pm.
