Wireless Access

What is Wireless access?
Wirless access allows you to connect your laptop computer to a network using radio waves instead of a cable. This means, for example, that you can surf the Web or do your email while sitting under the trees on the Mall in front of Hamilton Library.

Where does Wireless access work?
Please refer to the following link for the wireless coverage areas on campus

What do I need to access the Wireless network?

  • Portable Computer
  • A Wireless PC Card (802.11b certified)
    • If your laptop comes with built-in wireless feature, you would not need a wireless PC card
  • A Valid ITS Username (available at http://www.hawaii.edu/infotech/yourusername.html)
  • Access Validation (12-hour time limit per session - will pop up as you try to access your first webpage after successfully logging onto the network)
  • One of these Web Browsers (required for authentication)
    • PC Users: (Internet Explorer 5.5 or higher version or Netscape Communicator 4.77)
    • MAC Users: (Internet Explorer 5.01-Preferred or higher version or Netscape Communicator 4.76)
  • WARNING: there are Wireless cards which are NOT COMPATIBLE with the UH wireless network which are not aware of, these include some Linksys cards
